SIERRA DESIGNS

Sierra Designs was born out of a storm. Caught in harsh weather without the right gear, founders George Marks and Bob Swanson came down from the mountains with an idea—outdoor equipment that could truly stand up to the elements. They set to work designing tents, sleeping bags, and garments built for real conditions and real use.

By 1968, they introduced the 60/40 Mountain Parka, a jacket that changed everything. Its innovative fabric blend adapted to both rain and shine, long before breathable membranes became standard. What began as a practical response to discomfort became a design icon.

Decades later, that same parka is still made. The materials and methods may have evolved, but the frontier mindset remains—designing with purpose, testing in the wild and trusting nature to tell you what works.
