CASHMERE BALCAMAAN COAT
This coat is made from the finest 100% cashmere, produced by a long-established wool manufacturer in Ichinomiya, Aichi one of the world’s top three wool-producing regions. The yarn is dyed using the traditional skein-dyeing method, which, though time-consuming, preserves the natural texture of the fibers while ensuring even, vibrant color.
The dyed yarn is then woven into a high-density double weave on a vintage Schoenherr loom, in operation for 70–80 years. Modeled after the German original, this hand-maintained loom operates at just 1/10–1/20 the speed of modern machines, weaving only about 15 meters per day. This slow process allows the yarn to be woven without stress or tension, producing fabric that is both dense and luxuriously airy. Preparing the warp alone threading 4,000–10,000 threads by hand—takes skilled artisans approximately 10 days. The woven fabric is then carefully fulled, a delicate process for 100% cashmere, completed by expert specialists.
The design maintains the classic elegance of a Balmacaan coat with a fly-front closure and welt pockets, while a large inverted pleat at the back, inspired by traditional Austrian loden coats, creates a graceful A-line silhouette. Leather buttons and brass charms on the pockets add subtle, refined accents.
To preserve the beauty of the fabric and design, the coat is constructed using special reverse stitching, with most seams and edges hand-finished. This reduces bulk, enhances comfort against the skin, and keeps the coat lightweight.
A garment that embodies meticulous craftsmanship and the highest quality materials—a true investment in timeless elegance.
