MELTON BALMACAAN COAT
Do you know the great films of the French director Jacques Tati? Every shot is full of fantastic visual ideas, from the set designs, to the gags. But the inspiration Ramdane Touhami took from them is the shape of the coat the main character (played by Tati himself) is wearing, to do his own twist of the classic balcamaan coat.
Actually 3 versions exist, each special in its own way.
This is the Melton Balmacaan Coat by Die Drei Berge.
Melton wool is known for its very high density, which gives it warmth and durability.
The fabric is produced in the Aichi Prefecture, one of the world's most vital regions for the production of wool.
Using wool blended with British wool on old-style looms which have been in operation for 80 years.
This is weaving at the very highest level. Just the setup of tha machines takes at least 10 days!
Yes, creating quality takes time, and the very meticulous process of working on these precious machines is about 20 times slower that modern looms.
That very slow pace prevents stress to the yarn, and allows for a very lofty and premium textile as a result.
The coat has fly front and reach-through pockets, and a large inverted pleat in the back.
